Oldhammer is dead. Long live Oldhammer.

Punk died when the clash signed to CBS.
Modermism died when the Pruit Igoe housing development was demolished.
Madchester died when the Hacienda was closed.
Grunge died when Dinosaur Jr. featured on the Clothes Show.

Is Oldhammer dead? And if so when did it happen?
When Warhammer Fantasy died? When it became about facebook? When it gained a contract?

Who knows?

Who cares?

The Ferrous Dukes - Done

Well, i did it. I finished some figures. It took me till March but Fuck it, They are done.

I now have an Oarlock gang that I can play some Necromunda with. I've got games booked in and I'm looking forward to them.

Now that my painting funk is over I can get on with painting other stuff. Hooray!

First Figure of the year - Necromunda

It's been a slow start to the year painting wise, I've got loads of stuff started but just never felt the enthusiasm to sit down and get them completed. I've got a squad of Squats on the go, a gang of Techs, a couple of Dunlendings and a Vampire all sitting on a shelf giving the evil eye, wanting finishing. But instead of completing any of these I went out and bought some new figures on Saturday morning and by Sunday morning I had finished the first one.

To Squat or not to Squat, that is the question....

Whether is nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune......
I think my English teacher did an ok job. Thats all I remember though.

The new Squat.

Grendl Grendlsen

GW released a comedy teaser video last week and then pics of the figure dribbled out over the weekend. First blurry shots of an unpainted fig in a display case. Then better pics of an unpainted figure...

End of Year Catch up

At this time of year most bloggers are making some kind of 'Year in Review' post and tallying up how many games they've played or how many figures they've painted and giving you a run down of what they hope to achieve in the next year. Not me. For various reasons I have gotten out of the habit of blogging about the figures I've painted. Be it moving house, forgetting or being unable to get a decent photo, a fair amount of figures have gone unpublicised this year. So nows the time to set things straight.

First up are a couple of units, ironically both the same size. I have been an Ork player for ever. They were my first RT army. In fact some of the figs above are from that very army. I'm going to just enjoy these figures for what they are and paint them in little batches in between other stuff. That way i'll end up with a sizeable little force without even realising it. I love these figures. They are the archetypal RT bad guys and I can't wait to get some of them on the table.

Building a little village

I recently took advantage of some pre-Christmas offers from some games companies in order to try and build some more appropriate scenery for my Dutch Revolt games (of course anything used in those is easily transferrable to a fantasy setting so double win!). I've been admiring the scenery that Rich and Nick build over on the Lard Island News blog as well as another Lard associate Sidney and I decided I wanted a bit more life in my scenery settings. The buildings that I've already got from 4ground are great but they are a little bit more fantasy than I would like and are also a bit more urban than I need for some games, so I decided I'd try my hand at producing a more rural, villagy setting. 4ground produce some great buildings and I had been eyeing up their Timber Framed Cottage for some time. As well as the painted version, they also do a raw silhouette version which is just your basic cottage with no colours, minimum textures and no detailing. I figured these would be an ideal base for the village buildings and as 4ground were kind enough to offer a black Friday discount I dived and bought 6 cottages and some detailing kits (a mix of Stuart and Tudor Versions).

Warhammer Dredd!

Zhu pointed out an old school oddity that I thought I'd share with the wider world. Back in 86, in the Citadel Spring Journal, Rick Priestley published some rules for large scale gun fights in the Dredd universe. Casually tucked into the bottom of adverts for Dredd figures it's easy to miss as you drool over the shiny figures. Rick explains that although the rules in the Judge Dredd RPG are great, when the numbers involved in combat get too large they can slow the game down to a crawl. So Rick gives us some rules for Judges and weapons stats in order to arm your perps. There are even some rules and stats for the Lawmaster to run around on it's own causing havoc. The rules are bolt on's to Warhammer 2nd Edition and came a full year and a bit before Rogue Trader. Have a look thanks to Stuff of Legends.

Judge Dredd RPG

Part of being an adult is having the kind of disposable income that you could only dream of as a kid. This essentially means that you can piss your hard earned cash up the wall on some silly dad-soldiers providing your wife doesn't mind (or catch you, whichever one describes your relationship). What ebay provides is the ability to funnel these cash splurges into non-new products. Essentially ebay turns your urge to splurge into a time travel experience.

The Fabulous Flexible 28mm Spanish Tercio

The latest addition to my Dutch Revolt collection is a big chunk or Spanish Pikemen. They are a mix of Gamezone and Citadel (plus the odd Foundry and Warlord figure).

Coming full Circle?

There are a lot of excited Nerds around at the moment. The pre-orders for Nu-Necromunda must be pouring in. If Shadow war was anything to go by then Necromunda:Underhive is going to be a massive hit for GW. I have to admit to being lured in by the hype myself. I've watched a couple of interviews with chief specialist bod, Andy Hoare, and his enthusiasm for the game is infectious. He's a player a collector and a generally lovely bloke. The rejuvenation of 1995's Necromunda with two redesigned gangs and 2D board looks like it'll have some great gameplay and has pushed the GW game format in a different direction to 8th edition 40K. I was gathering info about the game and working out how it might work it occurred to me that something was going on. The type of gamer I am (and the this applies to the people I'm lucky enough to play games with) will no doubt appreciate the game as it comes out of the box but I have a sneaky suspicion that we will fairly quickly try and push the boundaries. The game isn't even out and I want to mess with it.

Rogue Trader - The Opening Statement

That is the first full statement you read in the 1987 Warhammer 40,000 : Rogue Trader rule book.

It was important.
