As well as being a member of the Oldhammer and Lead adventure forums I'm also a Frother. If you are unaware of said place, Frothers Unite UK is a forum that is verbally liberal and determined to be as honest as possible, even if that honesty is at times painful. However it is a place full of people who are passionate about our hobby and also have a lingering love of old citadel figures as well as loads of guys who actually work in the industry. 

Several of these lovely gents have set a up a fundraising scheme where they produce a figure (or figures) for members who donate money which goes to Cancer Research and the MS society.

Sculptors, casters and general fab people donate their time and expertise to create the miniatures.

Moving the story on......

With the birth of a miniature Whiskey becoming ever more imminent as well as the less exciting return to work it appears that I will have to curtail my wargaming gallivanting for the time being. I cannot justify being away from the waddling one as she is finding this pregnancy more difficult and she is finding it hard to deal with our 18 month old son while carrying around what appears to be a small elephant as well. I've already had to turn done the lovely Lenihan who wanted to play a game reflecting the forthcoming referendum. If anybody is in the cambridge area on the weekend of the 13th/14th and want a game, get in touch through his blog. He's a lovely chap and hardly ever bites.
An evening of gaming, like the one that we have planned at Erny's next month will have to be the extent of my gaming activities for some time. However, I have a plan.

While I was in the midlands the other day, Linz presented me with a box of 'stuff'. Apart from the landraider (now my sons of Horus have two! Yay!) there was some lovely metal treasure as well. 

Sir Tedwin De Pu'del

Erny has been kind enough to invite a load of smelly oldhammerers over to his abode to play a dungeon delving version on his lovely looking terrain. So I was in need of an Adventurer of some sort. I rummaged around in my piles of lead and came up with several possibilities, Strider from my list of top ten minis , a conversion of the officer from the marksmen of miriglaino, a paladin from the old citadel d&d range. However, none of them were doing it for me. After having a look through the interwebs I decided to do a conversion based on an old Black Tree Design HYW knight. I snipped off his head and then had a hard time deciding which head to replace him with.

After a my Sons of Horus got a drubbing due to the unexpected presence of a vindicator on a 4x4 board with lots of troops we decided to have a quick and silly 4 way game using Rogue Trader. I let Mike and Kirsten pick their favourite half a dozen figures out of my case. I then picked my little crew above.

Getting back to it

So BOYL14 is over and despite the feverish enthusiasm on the Oldhammer forum the next one is long way away. It's back to the painting board and on with other projects. For me, that means getting some fantasy stuff painted. My plan is to get enough units painted to field an army. However, as I am a contrary bugger I can't quite focus on one army (chaos) or the other (greenskins) so i've decided the best thing to do would be to paint units for both, alternating one for the other and fielding it as a mixed force. Once I've got a field large enough to field I can continue to add units and it should organically become two armies. That's the plan anyway.

Well we did it. We managed to play a game that hasn't seen the light of day in 25 years. A game that was never officially a product, was never actually on sale and  was nothing more than a footnote in GW's history.

Wacky races - BOYL stylee

I can't think of a more perfect game for a Sunday morning knock about than GorkaMorka. This was actually my first ever game but Cheetor had stepped in late in the day to organise us all and Captain crooks had selflessly prepared the data cards on the other side of the world as well as sending his awesome killdozer to Asslessman so that he could take part vicariously. So from bottom left to top right you can see my Death cab, OttoVonbismarks Red shadorks, captain crooks /asslessmans squat dozer, axioms brat speedster, Antipixi's underhivers rig and Cheetors Mushroom Klowd Tour bus. 

The mean streets of Ferrograd - BOYL 2014

The Ferrograd pirate game was the scheduled to be a kind 'getting to know you' game where we play fast and loose and get use to the real, live person that we are playing against rather than the forum avatar. Cheetor had brought his Orky pirates safely across the sea and JB manfully took to the task of GM'ing the shenanigans. I've posted plenty about this scenario already so I won't repeat my self but I'll run through the happenings as I can recall them. 

BOYL - day two

Before I get down to writing up the other 3 games I took part in over the weekend I thought I'd just give you a quick look at the other games that were going on on the Sunday at foundry. Above is the massive epic game that was kicking off. A truly epic battlefield if you'll pardon the pun. 

In one of the rooms off the courtyard a chaos vs undead game lasted most of the day, I only got a chance to pop in and have a quick look.

The siege game moved onto its third day with the beseigers breaching the defences. 

And a great looking game of heroquest running in the marquee. Once I get some time to sift through photos I'll write up the other games. Just hold your horses! 

BOYL can be only one

I know I said I'd have a report up yesterday but I've no signal (honest!) so I'm finally able to put something together while I drip dry in the hotel room. So far I've had a whale of a time. After the initial awkward introductions and politeness we got down to gaming as quick as we were able. The tables were set up in a marquee in the middle of the circular buildings that now house foundry so we had a perfect gaming environment, bright and cheery with enough air to hide all the 'manly' odours. I'll take more photos of the surroundings today. The first game was the Ferrograd pirate game but that'll take longer for me to write up so I'll start with the quickening game.

Spaysh Mureens!!

This image from the Rogue Trader rulebook has always intrigued me. It suggests that not all space marines were law abiding loyalists locked away in a fortress monastery waiting on the call to blow away some xenos. In fact this pair look like a couple of guns for hire, waiting in a sleazy bar for their next job to come along. We all know the way the emperors finest are portrayed these days. Noble superhumans with indefinite life spans, educated and intelligent, fearlessly defending humanity without a second thought. It wasn't that way in the days of Rogue Trader.
